Biography:

Darth Vader is a central antagonist in the Star Wars saga. Once a heroic Jedi Knight named Anakin Skywalker, he was prophesied to bring balance to the Force.

However, plagued by visions of his loved ones' deaths and manipulated by the Sith Lord Darth Sidious (Emperor Palpatine), Anakin succumbed to fear and anger. He embraced the dark side of the Force, becoming Darth Vader, a powerful Sith Lord.

Vader served as the Emperor's enforcer, hunting down the remaining Jedi and crushing any opposition to the Galactic Empire. His iconic image is defined by his imposing black armor and mask, a life-support system necessitated by severe injuries he sustained in a duel with his former master, Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Darth Vader first appeared in Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope (1977), played by David Prowse and voiced by James Earl Jones. The true nature of Darth Vader as Anakin Skywalker was not revealed until later in the series.
